Flock takes flight – new remade vintage shop

A new addition to Brighton’s vintage and handmade scene opens in the North Laine on 7 November. Nested in Sydney Street, Flock brings together the unique and bohemian offerings of a handful of well-established local labels, from four local designer-makers with over 22 years of retail experience between them.

The boutique opens to the public Saturday 7 November, from 10am – 6pm and Sunday from 11am – 5pm. So what do we know about the local labels you’ll be flocking down to see?

Pick Up Sticks Vintage

Kate Branthwaite has been sourcing and selling vintage textiles, haberdashery and homewares for the last five years (formerly under the name Rag & Bone) and specialises in antique lace, buttons and trims.

Kate frequently travels all over the world scouring French brocantes and Asian flea markets to find high quality pieces with beautiful, original details and has recently branched out into vintage womenswear from 1930s –1970s as well as beautifully embroidered Victorian shawls.

Laura Powell of Hearts And Guns uses a combination of vintage fabrics and trims to create stunning ready-to-wear womenswear. From kimonos made from vintage silk headscarves and fringing to tapestry-backed waistcoats with soft sheepskin collars, Hearts And Guns is popular with both girls and women.

The Emperor’s Old Clothes

The Emperor’s Old Clothes creates hand-tailored ready to wear clothing and accessories for men and women. Taking inspiration from the 1950s & ‘60s, as well as costume design from theatre and film, each item is designed, cut and hand-tailored from scratch, often from vintage remnants or end-of-roll fabrics.

The label is run by sisters Cecily and Charlotte and is based in an on-site studio from which they also offer a bespoke service creating made-to-measure clothing from casual wear to three-piece suits and wedding dresses.

Using exotic materials in vibrant colours such as beetle-shells, parrot feathers and porcupine quills, Francesca Herrera creates unique statement jewellery inspired by her Peruvian heritage. Palomita has been selling locally and online for the last seven years and each piece is lovingly handcrafted.
