A lecturer from the University of Sussex is offering people working in vintage businesses in East and West Sussex the chance to win £50 by taking part in a study into the economic growth of the sector.

Hope & Harlequin, Brighton

Business and Management Dr Ödül Bozkurt explains that her research, backed by a Research Development Fund: “aims to generate a broad, initial understanding of the experiences of working in the vintage sector, including its sources of attraction and its challenges.”

“As such economic activity has grown it has become possible to speak of a “vintage sector”, where an increasing number of people work as business owners or wage workers. Yet to date there has been little systematic study (of this).”

“The reasons for investing or working in the sector, the rewards sought and attained, and the meaning attributed to working in vintage deserve to be better understood as part of a larger effort to grasp the economic, social and cultural significance of the rise of the vintage sector.”

Dr Bozkurt is looking to interview around 20 business owners and workers about the businesses, as well as workers’ career histories, experiences and opinions on economic issues within the sector.
