Organisers of London’s popular The Blitz Party are hosting a special event to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings on 7 June.

The Blitz Party, London

The Vaults in London’s South Bank will be transformed into a wartime air shelter for the night, with a swing dance hall and two live music stages hosting the UK’s finest live swing bands and DJs, including Natty Congeroo and the Flames of Rhythm and The Red Roosters.

Bunkers fitted with sandbags, searchlights, blackout curtains, oil lamps and military bunk beds, original wartime newsreels and films and a vintage beauty parlour and photo booth help complete the period feel. And ration books will replace bar menus on the night, with wartime snacks served in the Mess Hall.

As you would expect, the dress code is strict and specified as ‘1940s glam, home front utility and allied uniform’. Organisers add that “denim may be acceptable in the munitions hall, and trainers do squeak nicely in the gymnasium, but that is where they should remain”.

The bunker opens at 8pm, and floor shows and entertainment will start from 9pm.Tickets cost £25 and sold in advance at www.theblitzparty.com or calling 0207724 1617.
