Tarmount Studios, Shoreham

Tucked away in an enclave of small independent shops and cafes and heralded by a life-size Fifties-inspired ‘Aunt Sally’, Shoreham’s Tarmount Studios Vintage Emporium opens out into an Aladdin’s cave of retro and vintage gems.

Formed as a co-operative by a group of local vintage lovers five years ago, Tarmount offers something for the serious collector and the casual browser alike, with vintage kitchenalia nestled alongside vintage clothing and beautiful examples of classic furniture.

Just seven minutes from Brighton by train (with the Emporium a two-minute walk from the station), Shoreham makes for an ideal day-trip destination, boasting several charming tea rooms, antique boutiques and charity shops, as well as two monthly food markets on the 2nd and 3rd Saturdays.

Clothing and accessories

Among Love Retro’s magpie finds you’ll come across everything from clothes and accessories to painting and lamps. Faux fur jackets and vintage hand knits are currently in stock for autumn/winter.

Johnny Loves June & Gladys’ Vintage Home Wares sell a hand-picked selection of vintage and preloved clothing and accessories, including covetable 1960’s Dolly Rocker pieces, as well as tea sets, haberdashery and collectibles.

The Kidd Designs has been at Tarmount for just four months but has been trading at Spitalfields for years, the last three of which selling vintage clothing sourced in Sussex. In return this Tarmount stall showcases artists, designers and small businesses that trade at the London market, including lego and scrabble jewellery, costume jewellery designs made from Swarovski crystal and vintage satchels and handbags.


French vintage is the dominant passion on Sharon McCarthy‘s section. Sharon has a home in France and is always bringing back exciting treasures from across the channel, including a nice selection of upcycled, French look furniture as well as beautiful enamelware and kitchenalia.

Mel Kemp has been sourcing and selling vintage for many years and currently offers a quality selection of glamorous vintage bedroom furniture. Her stock Is constantly, having established reliable sources to keep up with the strong demand.

Ceramics and glass

Juniperwood Vintage specialises in 1950s and ‘60s ceramics and lighting and regularly has Poole, Hornsea, Pyrex, Midwinter , Mdina and Murano in stock, as well as new classics such as Nicki McWilliams’ retro biscuit cushions.

Prized for their bold colours and strong abstract decoration, West German Mid-Century ceramics have become highly sought after within vintage circles and Lidia Kinder has a great selection in stock, as well as a knack for sourcing original furniture from the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s.

Books and music

RetrO Rama bring showbiz glitz and glam to the studios with collectible music and film memorabilia. From Beatles to Bowie, Monroe to Marlena you’ll find all the icons in book, movie and vinyl form, as well as a selection of retro toys, lamps and even vintage vogue patterns from the 1940s to ‘60s.
