My Vintage Brighton – Daniella Christina

30 July 2013 2 Comments

Danielle Christina Timms, a fashion designer who mixes classic vintage shapes, styles and fabrics with contemporary trends, answers our questions on all things Brighton and vintage…

Who are you? Danielle Christina Timms

What do you do? I’m a designer, maker and founder of women’s wear fashion label Make & Believe by Daniella Christina. The label is based in Brighton and inspired by vintage tailoring and British heritage. I’m also the creative director for Make & Believe magazine, an online magazine exploring fashion, culture, art and vintage across the UK and a channel which allows young and developing creatives to make their mark.

What does vintage mean to you? Vintage is beautiful as most clothing and craftsmanship is sustainable with enduring style.

How do you like to get dressed in the morning (and afternoon and evening)? I always like to mix modern alternative fashion with vintage, rather that copy a certain trend or era. It’s always good to put your own twist on what you wear – that’s how it shows your personality is unique.

What’s your favourite decade for style? I adored the classic cut of the 1940s, when women were feminine and strong.

What’s your favourite vintage shop in Brighton (and the surrounding area)? I love Beyond Retro and also hunting for bargains in charity shops – it’s always great to find something unique.

What’s your favourite online vintage shop? For vintage furniture I like Lovely and Company and for vintage posters; AntikBar

Where do you like to go to eat and drink yummy things? I like going for coffee or lunch at Marwood coffee shop and The Bees Mouth is a great place for different drinks, I love a Cherry Beer!

Where do you like to go to listen to awesome music? I like swing and rock ‘n roll music nights so try to make time to go along to The Big Itch, Tail End Charlie’s, Cotton Tail Club and of course my own DJ night Swing That Thing.

Have you been to any tip top vintage events of late? The last vintage event I went to was in Shoreham by Sea – the Johnny Loves June vintage fair.

What has been your best ever vintage/second-hand/charity shop find? I found a Vivienne Westwood dress in a TRAID charity shop.

What is it about Brighton that makes you smile? The sea wins always! Being so close to it is a great advantage, especially in the summer months.
