Black & gold – the baroque fashion revival
Complementing the extravagance of the festive season, baroque fashion was back with a bang this season, as Vintage Brighton editor Jo-ann Fortune finds out in the current issue of Vintagexplorer magazine.
Black and gold, tactile textures and elaborate embellishments were the order of the day at Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties and decadent detailing remains big news for 2013.
For fashion ideas fresh from the catwalks, explore Dolce & Gabbana’s 17th century Sicily-inspired autumn/winter 12/13 collection.
In the vintage boutiques and high street stores look out for religious iconography – particularly jewelled crucifixes – intricate prints and heavy jewellery. Or for a more recent blast from the past, hunt down original Eighties’ scarf printed shirts and bomber jackets, jewelled jumpers and gold party dresses.
My take on the trend? A J.W. Anderson for Topshop quilted skirt in that all-important black and gold print – £20 from eBay – paired with black basics and a gold cross on leather chocker from my teenage years.
What do you think of the baroque trend? Did you indulge in the OTT fashion furore over the festive season?
