Department – Hove’s brand new flea market

15 January 2012 5 Comments

Adding to Hove’s plethora of charity shops and growing vintage interiors offering, Department is a brand new flea market on Blatchington Road.

Set over two floors, the basement area is quickly taking shape, with Vintage Owl Boutique having just moved in among a hand-picked selection of covetable vintage interior items, while upstairs dozens of independent units boast everything from men’s and women’s vintage clothing and accessories, through kitsch gifts and curiosities, to kitchenware and furniture.

Owner Sophia Deeprose, who also runs bric-a-brac shop Bird and Rose just a few doors down, plans to knock through the back of the ground floor to create more space for stalls as well as a changing room area, but there’s already plenty to interest the keen vintage-lover and bargain hunter. And if you get thirsty, you can even pick up a tea, coffee or soft drink at the counter.

Department is open seven days a week, from 10am – 5pm Monday to Saturday and 11am – 4pm on Sundays. Visit the flea market on Facebook to find out more, and if you’ve already popped in, let us know what you thought by leaving a comment below.

Love it! Live over the road, it’s great to have something like this so close. Just need a bigger house!

I often frequent this shop as they have really cool well selected stuff. I think it evolves week by week and now they have a tea room which is run by two very lovely ladies. It is much better than Snoppers in the tiwn centre I think, as their stuff never changes and it is such a mish-mash of often poor quality bric-a-brac. Worth popping in frequently as the good stuff goes quickly…
